HOW TO EXPORT A CAR FROM THE UNITED STATES TO CANADA LINKS AND INFO

If you are planning on buying a car in the USA and export to Canada there are two border crossing you need to consider. The US side and the Canadian side.

Then of course there is the US side of the border. Here is a link to the list of states you can click to get crossing sites. Obviously if you are in Canada you pick the states that are along the border. http://www.customs.ustreas.gov/xp/cgov/toolbox/ports/ I find that if you call any of these locations they are very helpful and will do all they can do to help you over the phone.

There are a few ways you can bring a car into Canada. You can use a broker or have the car shipped to the US side of the border and bring it through both sides of customs yourself. Also, some people want to fly down here and drive the car back. If you purchase in Florida you'll need to pay sales tax and have insurance if you plan on getting a temp tag and drive it up yourself. This can vary by state so if you are buying a car in another state you may want to check the requirements for each as far as temp or transport tags go. I understand that a transport tag can also be obtained from your province in Canada so you may want to check that as well. The US side of the border requires the title be sent to them at least 3 days prior to the border crossing. If you use a broker you'll also need an Export Power of Attorney.
